You may have found this website in a focused search for a healing solution for your Reactive Attachment Disorder diagnosed child or other attachment challenges within your family. You came to the right spot, especially if you are located in the Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Yolo (or surrounding) counties. I provide both office and in-home attachment-based therapy. Yes, I often do House Calls, so that I can meet you in the place where the relationship challenges and behaviors are the most intense and disruptive--your home with your family.
If you are a parent who has met with numerous well meaning professionals only to find they really had no firm understanding of what it is actually like to live with attachment challenged children, let alone what it feels like to be you, then I am glad you found your way here. I do "get it" and there is hope for peace within your family. No quick fixes or expensive therapy packages promising a completely compliant child by the end of the week: just a holistic, attachment-based, therapeutic process that supports change, self care, emotional reguation, and stronger, loving relationship

I work with individuals, couples, and families utilizing attachment therapies designed to address underlying emotional difficulties associate with parent/child challenges in the first few years of life. I am experienced in couples attachment therapy and emotionally focused therapy approaches that are proven effective with adults. Also, I specifically specialize in treating children and adolescents who may have experienced trauma due to childhood abuse, neglect, abandonment, multiple foster family placements, and/or adoption. These children have already experienced harm and I take great care not to cause them to be re-traumatized by the clinical interventions that are designed to help them heal and grow into healthy individuals. When working with families, I use a model of treatment that holistically supports the needs of the child to form more secure and reciprocal attachment relationships with parents/primary caregivers, and to reduce the negative behaviors and emotional reactivity that many children demonstrate. At the same time I support parents to develop the emotional regulation and therapeutic parenting skills necessary to be the primary therapeutic support in the life of their child. It is my intention to create a loving, therapeutic environment designed to resolve trauma in children who have experienced abuse, neglect, loss, and/or other extreme challenges to primary attachment. Using playful, accepting, curious, and empathic processes, I seek to use the language of children to facilitate parent/child attachment. Parents are an integral part of the therapeutic process. Parent(s) are present in all sessions to support the parent/child bond. Actually, the parent/child relationship is the focus of the treatment and it is explored, examined, and experienced throughout the treatment sessions. The parent/caregiver is encouraged to use playful, loving, accepting, curious, and empathic play to correct past imprints for negative engagement. Theraplay© is another treatment strategy I use when working with children, ages three through 14. The elements directly addressed are: structure, engagement, nurture and challenge. These therapeutic approaches are proven to be effective in reducing the behavioral symptoms that are often associated with a variety of disorders including: Reactive Attachment Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, and others. Additionally, this treatment approach addresses the underlying fears, misperceptions, and distress from which this population of children may suffer, and which contribute to their disturbing behavior and lack of healthy attachment relationships. Addtionally, I use individual Trauma Focused Cognitive Therapy with the child when trauma is interfering with the ability to think clearly, make decisions from a solid base, and cope emotionally to family interactions, life experiences, and challenges.
